Plot assessment

Visited the garden this weekend to assess the needs of the plot before getting started. Decided to weed first then install gopher-wire (aka 'garden cloth')

Here are some photos of the garden and plot A-11, pre-weeding.

Some sneaky carrots that were already living among the weeds:

We've ordered a copy of Fresh Foods from Small Spaces from Florey's Books as another resource for our gardening efforts.

Hello White Crane Springs Community Garden

After six months on the waiting list, a plot in the White Crane Springs Community Garden became available.

Plot A-11 is the first attempt at urban community gardening for this household of novice gardeners. Photos documenting our gardening efforts to follow shortly.

The plot's dimensions are 4' x 8' and apparently we're in need of "gopher wire" under the plot, 3' deep, before we plant anything. After laying gopher wire down in the plot the goal is to plant vegetables that will thrive in San Francisco, specifically within the Sunset neighborhood's micro-climate.

We will definitely consult Golden Gate Gardening extensively & will most likely purchase the book from Florey's Books in Pacifica or another independent (or IndieBound) bookstore.
